Does my tooth need contouring?
Tooth contouring is ideally suited to teeth that are mildly uneven, chipped or shaped differently from their neighbours. It is most commonly carried out on the upper front teeth — the central incisors, lateral incisors and canines — which are most prominent when you smile.
Beyond aesthetics, contouring can also make certain teeth easier to clean — for example by smoothing a slight overlap that traps plaque. It is not always the right first step; if underlying decay or significant misalignment is present those issues should be treated first. As your dentist in St Albans, we always assess your teeth thoroughly before recommending any cosmetic treatment.
